AS Ambassador: About Lady Gaga Rejection in Indonesia

U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Scot Marciel spoke related rejection Lady Gaga concert in Jakarta. According to him, this issue is being discussed between the U.S. and Indonesia.

"Americans always believe in freedom of expression and Indonesia also felt so, and this is being discussed," Marciel said when met at the House of Representatives, Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

Lady Gaga concert planned to be held at the Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on June 3, 2012. However, a number of community organizations strongly opposed to the concert.

According to Marciel, the U.S. leave the decision to the people of Indonesia, the concerts are still held or not. Even so, he hopes the Indonesian government to listen to the opinions of its citizens as a whole.

"We decided to leave Indonesia, but we hope that the opinions and views of citizens of Indonesia as a whole be heard, not only from a small group," he said.

On this occasion, Marciel also responded to the notion of a people who called Lady Gaga as a symbol of lesbian and gay spreader understand. According to him, any symbol that is brought by Lady Gaga is a symbol of freedom of expression.

"Americans believe in freedom of expression and tolerance. Artist or artists that are a symbol of freedom of expression, and we think this a good thing at all," he said.

Therefore, Marciel also hoped Indonesia has a tolerance and openness to the issue. "The government and people of Indonesia itself has a long history of tolerance and openness," he said.

Marciel also said it had discussed the matter with the Police Headquarters. "So really there is a meeting (with police) but that of our security forces to discuss the security aspects, but apart from that we are not involved with the police on this issue," he said.
